Don’t Ignore These Noises Coming from Your Yuma, AZ Furnace

The average homeowner in Yuma, AZ, doesn’t register when their furnace kicks on or off. It’s a background noise that is as consistent and reliable as time itself. If you notice a change in the noises your furnace makes, it could be a sign of trouble.

Clicking When Running

One of the more subtle sounds you might hear from your furnace may be one of the most dangerous conditions. A furnace that clicks when operating can have a cracked heat exchanger, which can leak fumes. If you hear clicking coming from your system while it’s running, shut it down and get it inspected.

Humming Noise

All transformers hum to a degree, but a hum loud enough to hear from a few steps away is an issue. Your transformer is struggling to function and is on its way out. Calling for service when you hear that hum will save you from a cold night if your furnace fails to run.

Loud Ignition

Hearing your furnace burners ignite is common, but the sound should remain consistent. If the ignition sound gets more intense, your burners are dirty or in need of replacement. Letting this problem go is a safety hazard, as the noise is from extra gas building up before ignition.

Change in Cycle Pattern

Just as with our cars, we know what ‘correct’ sounds like when our furnace runs. The same goes for how often they cycle. If it seems like your furnace is constantly cycling on and off, you are probably right.

This is a sign that your furnace is overheating. This can be the result of many different issues within your system and result in a shorter lifespan. Worse, your furnace could shut down on frigid nights.

What to Do

First, if you don’t have a carbon monoxide detector on each floor of your home, we recommend that you do. There are many failures that will allow your system to leak. Your best defense is having carbon monoxide detectors in your home.

Second, the best thing you can do in Yuma, AZ, is to address furnace problems before they become failures. Give our technicians at Quick Refrigeration a call to maintain your furnace and keep it running for years to come.
