What to Do During a Water Leak in Roll and Tacna, AZ

As a homeowner, few things should scare you more than a water leak. They can do tremendous damage in a short time, especially if you don’t react quickly to contain it. Here are the steps you should take in case of a leak in your Roll and Tacna, AZ home.

Assess the Situation

The first thing you must do to deal with a leak is to assess the situation. Not every leak presents a significant threat to your home. So before you panic, investigate the problem thoroughly.

Small, slow leaks aren’t emergencies since you can use towels and buckets to contain the damage. Even moderate leaks aren’t as much of a threat as you might think. Only large leaks that are already damaging your home are typically cause for alarm.

Turn Off the Appropriate Shutoff Valve

After assessing the scope and severity of the leak, the next step is to stop the water flow. Ideally, you want to leave as much of your home’s water supply running as possible. You must find the closest shutoff valve to the leak and turn it off to do that.

Sinks and toilets have shutoff valves right near them. However, if the leak is elsewhere, you may have little choice but to close your home’s main shutoff valve. You can usually find it right near where your main water supply pipe enters your home.

If the water heater in your home is leaking, you can find its shutoff valve near its top. If the leak is originating from the storage tank, you should turn off the heater and call us immediately.

Clean Up and Call a Plumber

Once you’ve stopped the flow of water, you should try to clean up the area around the leak. You can use a shop vac or towels to clean up standing water. Then you should use one or more fans to accelerate the drying process.

Once you have the situation under control, call us so we can dispatch a plumber. Having the area around the leak already mostly clean and dry will accelerate repairs.

When your home in Roll and Tacna, AZ has a water leak, you need an expert plumber to help. Call Quick Refrigeration for a plumbing repair, and we’ll immediately dispatch an expert plumber.
