3 Common Air Conditioning Problems and Repairs

Problems with your air conditioning system can make your Yuma, Arizona, home hot and uncomfortable. Air conditioning problems can also reduce your indoor air quality and increase your utility bills. An experienced professional should look at your HVAC system at least once per year. That way, you catch any issues before they become severe. You should also contact a professional if you notice air conditioning problems such as annoying noises, inadequate cooling, or an air conditioner that doesn’t turn on at all.

Annoying Noises

You may notice an occasional clicking sound when your air conditioner turns on or off, and you may hear air moving through your ductwork. Clanging, rattling, banging, or thumping sounds could mean that there is a problem with the motor or blower assembly. Screeching noises coming from the blower may indicate that there’s a problem with the belt. If you hear any of these unusual sounds, shut down your HVAC system to prevent further damage and contact a professional immediately.

Inadequate Cooling

If your home feels hot even when your air conditioner has been on for a while, you may need to replace or reposition your thermostat. You could also have a refrigerant leak or leaks in your ductwork or your insulation. An HVAC technician can find and repair the source of your problem.

AC Isn’t Running

If your air conditioner won’t turn on or shuts off unexpectedly, check the batteries in your thermostat and replace them if needed. You should also check your AC’s circuit breaker. Faulty wiring, a worn out motor, or other problems could also be keeping your system from working.
