Your HVAC system is a critical part of your Yuma, Arizona, home. When your system goes down, it can have devastating effects on your household. One of the signs of a possible HVAC breakdown is strange noises. Here are the following HVAC sounds you will never want to ignore.
Screeching and Squealing
Screeching and squealing noises can be an indication that a belt in your system needs lubrication, has become worn, or is about to break. It also could be a sign that there are problems developing with the motor bearings. In either case, if a break occurs, it could lead to your motor ceasing to turn and your system shutting down.
Rattling, Thumping, Clanking or Banging
A rattling sound usually means that there is a bearing or other component in your system that has come loose and is moving around. These loose parts can cause damage to other parts if not repaired. Banging sounds in the system often mean that a part of the motor has become broken or disconnected. The blower can also come out of alignment and create these types of noises.
Fast, repeated, thwapping noises are often a sign that something has become stuck in the blades of the blower or there is something inside the housing that is coming into contact with the blower. The sound is similar to cards in a bicycle spoke. If you hear this noise, shut your system down and contact an HVAC specialist before the blower is completely stopped.
